8. Step Back Into the Olden Days at the Pioneer Museum (free)

In the summer months, the Pioneer Museum Square just off Tejon Street is home to Food Truck Tuesdays. Grab a bite to eat from one of the many local food trucks. Open Tuesdays from June to August, you have a choice of vegan bomb fries and homemade tacos to fingerlick’ bbq.

This entire area is easily accessible on foot. Park in one of the large city parking garages and enjoy wandering the streets. I find Colorado Springs things to do near me for families often involves food! You must have at least one visit to the local farmers market. We love buying from Colorado residents, giving back to our favorite city.

Local farmers market are held weekly featuring CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) like Ahava Farms and local artisans. Typically Colorado Springs Farmers markets start end of May, wrapping up for the season by late October.

Needing some bright color in cold months, one of our favorite Colorado Springs things to do with family in the winter is booking some time at Sweetwater Flower Shop in Old Colorado City. Make your own succulent garden or take a class learning how to create the most beautiful and bright wildflower bouquet, bringing cheer on gray days.

18. Climb Nature’s Staircase - the Manitou Incline (free)

If you like an outdoor challenge, hit the Manitou Incline – a mountain staircase that climbs 2,000 vertical feet in less than a mile!

This Colorado incline hike is rated difficult and for good reason! Starting at 6,500 feet (2,000 meters) and ending at 8,590 feet (2,620 meters), the Incline is an almost straight shot of about 2,750 steps.

For those wondering just how long is Manitou Incline in miles - that would be 0.9 miles!

Palmer Park has the most dog friendly trails in the city with Red Rock Canyon Open Space a close second. View of Pikes Peak can be found all over the city.

21. Biking Trails (free)

While not as biker friendly as Fort Collins, Colorado Springs has expanded biking trails and adventure parks for the public. There are dozens of paved walking paths throughout Colorado Springs. Nine of the best biking paths double as stroller friendly trails.

Completely volunteer funded and maintained, Goose Gossage Park’s moguls, ramps and trails provide hours of fun for kids and grownups alike. El Pomar Youth Bike Park in Fountain has a large bike park as well, giving the rider ample opportunities to nail those jumps.

There are several large sledding hills in Colorado Springs. Head to Fox Run Park’s open fields on the north side of Colorado Springs. With two large dog parks, let your pet run loose before taking a few runs down the midsize hills.

Cottonwood Creek Park has large hills near the playground and baseball fields.

LOCAL TIP! When you’ve had your share of sledding, head indoors to Cottonwood Creek Park aquatic center hours of water fun. Free to all YMCA members.

The famous Air Force Capel and her marvelous stained glass architectural marvels are undergoing a multi-year facelift. Check back in 2027 for tours! Once opened, this stained glass wonder is a picture taking spot of epic proportions.

34. Ride the World’s Highest Ferris Wheel at the North Pole

Catch a ride or two at the North Pole Amusement Park.

One of Melody’s favorite family friendly things to do in Colorado Springs when her kids were little was hit up the North Pole Amusement Park. About 20 minutes from Colorado Springs south end, this vintage kids amusement park sits at the base of Pikes Peak Mountain.

Kids and adults love the simple carnival type rides, mini roller coasters and a large ferris wheel. Of course, you can’t go to the North Pole without a visit with Santa Claus.

While many of the park’s rides are for younger children, it is a fun place for all ages. Enjoy a lemonade while looking at the views from high up top the ferris wheel. 

LOCAL TIP! Keep everyone well hydrated and fed - this park sits at 7,500’ elevation. Plan on a full day here. You’ll need to bring snacks and water (allowed). It’s built into a hill so you’ll be needing those hiking shoes as well.

We love stopping at Pikes Peak Pickles on our way to the North Pole. This little shop has big pickle flavors with rows of homemade cucumber goodies begging you to buy them! Zesty garlic and spicy hot cucs are favorites of ours!

Just north of Colorado Springs lies Palmer Lake. Locals flock to this little town for summer SUP sessions and fishing. In the winter, bundle up for a hockey game on ice, one of locals favorite things to do in Colorado Springs

While pricey, book a window side table at the Garden of the Gods club for that special breakfast. Breakfast cocktails and savory entrees make this a great brunch spot.

Taco Tuesday is every day at T-Bryd’s. This downtown Colorado Springs Mexican restaurant has some of the most unique and best tacos in town.
