As we embark on this magical journey, I can't help but get a bit sentimental. It feels like just yesterday when our now-adult kids were little, wide-eyed and amazed at the intricate Breckenridge ice sculptures.
This magical winter town, known for skiing, has been hosting the International Snow Sculptures Championships every January, giving families a winter wonderland of fun and creating memories that have become the heart of our family folklore. We attend regularly, and Breckenridge has become our home away from home, a place we love in all seasons.

If attending Ice Castles Cripple Creek at night, expect to be cold. Hand warmers last several hours, keeping your digits toasty warm.
Snow pants are optional but a good call for sliding down ice at the Cripple Creek Ice Castles. Nighttime? Definitely grab snow pants to stay warm.

After checking out the cool Breckenridge ice sculptures, take a jaunt to Isak and snag a pic next to this cool dude in the woods. The walk is short, easy for everyone. Just start at the southeast corner of the Stephen C. West Ice Arena parking lot, close to the Illinois Gulch Trailhead. Opening Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at 4 p.m., the Eagle event brings the icy wonder to life for its debut season. And if you’re up for a road trip, the beloved ice castle Cripple Creek opens a day earlier, on Dec. 19, just 90 miles away via Hwy 24.
This year marks a thrilling expansion with two locations to explore, giving you double the frozen fun! Whether you visit Eagle for its close-to-home convenience or venture to Cripple Creek for its long-standing charm, you’re in for a magical experience like no other.

This hand-built, one-of-a-kind creation was built by a man for his love, though he never quite finished it. The result? A quirky, come-at-your-own-risk adventure with crazy tall ladders and stunning views of the surrounding forests. It’s a memorable lesson in what happens when you don’t finish what you start!
