From Trails to Trees: Love Colorado’s Outdoors? Give Back by Planting a Tree!

Give Back to the Trails with Colorado Hikes and Hops

WHO WE ARE:

We’re Colorado Hikes and Hops—two outdoor lovers dedicated to exploring Colorado’s hiking trails, sharing outdoor adventures, and preserving the beauty of our beloved state. From the mountains to the forests, we’re passionate about connecting with nature and protecting the landscapes we cherish.

After a recent trip to Yosemite, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon, Melody was reminded of just how important it is to protect the places we love, and we wanted to bring that commitment back home.

WHAT WE’RE DOING:

This Giving Tuesday, we’re launching a fundraising page to support tree planting across Colorado.

Our goal? Plant 1,000 trees to help keep our trails vibrant and beautiful for generations to come.

HOW MUCH WE NEED:

We’re kicking things off with a $100 donation, and we invite you to contribute any amount you can. Every little bit makes a difference!

WHERE YOUR DONATION GOES:

100% of the proceeds will go to the National Forest Foundation, a top-rated nonprofit dedicated to forest conservation. Each dollar goes directly to planting trees, restoring habitats, and protecting the wild spaces we all cherish.

  • Why Give a Tree?

Because every tree adds a touch of magic to our beautiful landscapes! With 32% of Colorado covered in stunning forests, planting a tree helps keep our mountains and plains vibrant.

"A great longing is upon us, to live again in a world of gifts."

    - Robin Wall Kimmerer

By giving a tree, you’re growing a lasting friendship with nature. Let’s get our hands dirty and make a difference—one tree at a time!

  • We chose National Forest Foundation because they’re all about giving back to the beautiful trees we love here in Colorado!

They work directly in our state, helping to restore our stunning landscapes one tree at a time. It just felt right to support an organization that shares our passion for the outdoors and takes real action to protect it.

Plus, knowing our money goes straight to planting trees makes it even better!

  • For me, Melody, planting trees is personal. After the devastating Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fires in 2012 and 2013, my family felt the impact firsthand.

My sister was evacuated from Waldo, and we were forced to leave our home when the Black Forest fire came within a mile of us.

Hiking through the trails now, we can’t help but notice the burn scars left behind. But instead of just seeing the devastation, we see an opportunity to heal our beloved Colorado.

When you donate $1 to the National Forest Foundation, you’re kickstarting a tree’s journey!

Here’s how it works:

  • Scout It Out! – Forest rangers play matchmaker, finding the best spots that need new trees and picking which types will thrive there.

  • Seedling Superheroes – Seeds from nearby forests get a cozy nursery to grow strong for 1–2 years, like tree preschool!

  • Team Tree Planters – Once they’re ready, the young trees are planted by hand in their new homes by pro planters. Your dollar helps make each step happen, bringing life and shade back to our forests!

We abuse the land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.

- Aldo Leopold

Let’s make a difference, one tree, one step, one trail at a time.

Join us this Giving Tuesday and help us give back to the trails we love!
